I have ordered from Wall lumber several times and have no complaints.
Is Wall Lumber in KC? I have not heard of them before.
Thx
No, its North Carolina I believe, and does quite a bit of mail order business.
Yup Steves right NC.
I've ordered from them about 6 times. (cherry and mahogany) I get the UPS bundles which is good for the type of projects I do. I'm in NJ and the prices, even at that small quantity are better than I can get locally. I'm planning on redoing the kitchen next year and looking at their plywood prices, they look to be about 1/2 the price or better that my local lumberyard sells it for, and I'd still have to order it from them since they keep next to nothing in the way of plywood in stock. Give em a look http://www.walllumber.com It takes just a couple of days for the order to arrive.

LUmber companies in KC area - Schutte lumber on SW Boulevard has pretty good selection and variety. If you want large quantities, Liberty Hardwood over by Oceans of Fun, will have better prices for un-surfaced stuff, but you can't select individual pieces. Don't know if Paxton is still there on St John by old Montgomery Wards.
If you are looking from stuff straight form the mill, you need to go out in the country, for oak, walnut and maple,. Go to Missouri Dept of Conservation website, and somewhere they have link that shows you all the commercial mills in Missouri by county.
I've found that for small projects or special items (curly cherry, birds-eye maple, etc) I prefer to mail order (have used Wall, Groff & Groff, and a few others). The wood is choice and price-wise works out about the same or less than local purchase, for anything other than red oak or walnut.

Kev,
When I can't find what I need locally I've used http://www.woodworkerssource.net and found them very good to work with. Mark has always gotten me what I've needed and the prices are reasonable. There is also another source that I'm going to try this week that seems to have much better pricing: http://www.internetlumber.com. I get a lot over the internet mostly because I like working with exotics and prices can be exhorbitant if you don't shop carefully.
