Hi,
I recently got few solid wood (oak) doors and frames that I have ordered oversea back in June. All upper jambs for frames arrived broken (photo attached). I found a person who can build similar jambs but the biggest problem I have is how to get same finish. I can try to match the stain color in the Minwax store but that jambs feels like gloss on the top and I do not know what stain should I look for? Thanks a lot for any ideas!
Best Regards,
Ilya

Put in in as a condition fro your builder. The color needs to be matched on the material being used for the build.
That does not look like oak to me.
Doesn't look like oak to me, either. It looks like the same hardwood that a lot of imported furniture uses.
My first choice would be make themtake them backend send new ones, evening it takes a while.
You'll never get newly made jambs to match the original. You just won't. If the cracked parts are just the top jambs, I'd get some glue in them if I can, and nail them up. That will make them flat, and it won't be very noticeable. Especially being the top jamb.
I am not sure if you live in the US and ordered doors from overseas or live overseas and ordered doors from the US.
The reason that may matter is as MJ said that doesn't look like either red or white oak to me either. The first rule in matching stain color is knowing what wood you are working with because the same stain will behave differently on different woods. If the doors were made overseas they could be made from any number of exotic woods that may not be commonly seen here.
My suggestion is to try and determine what wood you have first because you can't match stains without knowing. It also seems you don't have a lot of finishing experience since you don't seem to know the difference between stain and clear finishes. Stains change the color of wood, clear finishes go on top of the stain to provide an attractive and protective layer on the wood. Your finish appears to be a standard satin finish. Since your door appears to be an exterior door the exterior side would need to be exterior rated, but that is not required on the inside. I might suggest you hire a finishing professional, a good one can even make different species of wood appear to be the same.
Hi everyone, thanks a lot for all your comments!
I live in US and ordered oversea. I attach another photo to show how that wood looks on the top. Also I noticed that drilling that gives small crack around the hole. Can it be paint or something similar may be. Probably I will ask trying to glue it first as John suggested and see what I got. I do not have any prior experience with that and appreciate all your comments!
I'm afraid that some of the terminology you are using is not giving me a clear picture of what you are referring to.
Can you clarify what this picture is? Is it the top edge of one of the side boards of the jamb or is it the top board of the jamb? The construction is very unusual and I must say I don't thinks it is very good quality but even with almost 50 years of professional home improvement experience I can't figure out what I am looking at.
What hole are you referring to? Are you asking something else other than how to match the color and finish?
That doesn't look like oak at all but it does look a lot like maranti. Your door come from the Philippines? Malaysia.?
That crack appears to be right along the bottom of the channel for the weather stripping. It needs to be repaired or it's just going to fail (and grow) when the pressure of the door pushes against the weather stripping. You need to remove the rubber and work glue into that crack and clamp it. If you can get that piece replaced by the manufacturer do it. If not then if you want it to look perfect you need to find someone that knows what they're doing to match up the finish. To someone that restores and refinishes furniture all day everyday that would be a piece of cake. Of course you pay those people. Winging it from what you find at the hardware store might not give you an acceptable result.
Thanks for all your ideas guys! Guess I will found out first how soon I can get a replacements (from China) and then if answer is: very very long wait I will start looking for a good finishing person.
Best,
