Hello All ,
A client asked me to use ” Pacifica Madrona ” Madrone , grown locally in Sothern Oregon .
This stock was kiln dried and has been stored in a warehouse . They want a corner Media Cabinet to hold a wide screen and some components below .
All I can say is each 2X12 weighs like a hundred pounds , a pal said Madrone works like Cherry .
Usually when I tell my Wife I have a load of Madrone , were talking firewood .
What to do , so little time and so many boards ?
yours in wood , dusty , a timber tart

Don't know much about madrone over on this coast, Dusty. About a month ago I was bragging about getting all my shop equipment sharpened up and ready to go. Guess what the first job was, a small one in teak. So much for the sharp equipment, geez! What will you have to do, plane that all down to 3/4" and hope it doesn't go whacky? The customer may be saving some money on the lumber but don't forget to add in for damage to your tools and a visit to the chiropractor.
hey dusty,
you're gonna have to give the customer what they want and, without a doubt, you must be grateful for the work, but i too would figure in the extra struggle of dealing with difficult wood. sounds like this may be a sweet little job!
bits and pieces of that oregon madrone make their way down south, once in a while. i have only turned it from the odd chunk and little log and those were fun.
good luck,
eef
