My buddy Sammy Sosa said you drill out the center from the end, stuff a cork dowel in there, then laminate a wooden cap on the end with epoxy in such a manner that you cant see then glue-line. Then you 'roid up for a few months, the go out there and "let the big dog eat!" Jose concurs,....

Sammy who?!GO CUBS!!!
Made In America show I think... Louisville Sluggers..
As I recall they had a setup sort of like a Lathe.. Stick on centers and the guy banged on the wood for a 'tone?' or something and marked the sticks for the next station??
Or was I sippin' my Jack at the kitchen table to late at night?
you going with a slow pitch or fast pitch bat?
obviously the sweeet spot of aluminum and wood differ, but maybe run down to the sporting good shop and take some measurements...
that will give you a start on it..
barrel diameter will be 2 1/4"

It will be fastpitch. Maple seems to be the most popular with ash a close second. I have seen barrel diameters of 2 9/16 to 2 5/8 also. Weight is an issue since it's for my daughter who is 12. I'd like to keep the weight 20 to 21 oz.
im 98.2% certain that the max barrel diameter for a softball bat is 2 1/4"... the larger size you listed are for baseball.a fastpitch bat will have a longer barrel when compared to the slowpitch bat, so i dont think you will have a problem with the sweet spot..

agreed, weight will be your biggest issue.... not sure how long you will make the bath, but im guessing around 26-28" im not up on my weight/size calcs, but it might be tough making a bat that is around 20 oz... nevertheless give it a try and see what happens. for a 12 year old girl, i dont think ash or maple will make a difference. in mlb, ash has been used for decades, with maple becoming more popular in the last 5 or so years.post some pics... and make sure you brand it...
