Hi there, I am trying to repair an older (85 years or so) wooden bowl handle and figured, as a novice to woodworking, that this would be a great place to ask my question. The issue is the knob of the bowl lid has fallen off and I am wondering if the best way to re-glue it is to use solvent or to sand the old dried glue away. I also am curious what sort of glue I should use to stick the knob back on as the weight of the lid itself is obviously why the knob came unglued over time. Thanks a lot for all of your help, I have attached pictures so you guys have a better idea of what I am talking about.

I would carefully sand the surface on the lid and the shoulder on the knob and then use a little epoxy to glue the knob back in. It won't take much and you don't want any squeeze out. You could mask the lid with clear packing tape. The epoxy won't stick to the plastic.
Mr. Problems looks to me like the hide glue failed. After 85 years its over due for repair. I would use a warm damp cloth to clean up the area around the hole and in the hole. Then do the same for the knob. I would fix with hide glue because that's what I use on most of the furniture I repair and that's what was used originally.
Thanks so much for your help user-6480500, as this was made by my great grandfather, I wanted to make sure that hopefully some other future spawn of mine can pop up on a woodworking forum to fix it in the future... if this glue fails once again.
