Hi Everybody,
My old leather- on -plywood briefcase is busy giving up the ghost.
I have some quilted maple, cocobolo and bubinga that I want to make a new briefcase with.
I do not know where to purchase the hardware (Brass combination clips, handle posts, etc) though.
Any ideas ? I will also appreciate any input even regarding possible plans?
Regards,
Stapes

I've seen just about everything you'll need at Rockler. I'm sure there are other retailers who carry the same stuff; I just can't recall who they are right now (CRS!).

Woodcraft also sells briefcase hardware:

Try googling "briefcase hardware."

A decade ago, I made a wooden briefcase. It's frame and panel--maple with 1/4 in plywood panels. I got the hardware (hinges, hinge support, handle, lock) from Rockler.
Be advised that wood can make for a heavy briefcase. Mine is of the "standard" sort of size (like the typical Samsonite hard-side), and it weighs a good 8-10 pounds empty.
Also, you need to give some thought as to how you are going to finish the inside.
Just my two cents. Maybe I'll get around to posting a picture or two.
