I’m repairing some old wooden chairs (shaker like chairs with torn rush seats).
I’d like to replace the seats with wooden slats (unless I’m convinced to replace to rush weave).
But I’m sure there has to be a place where I can purchase slats for the seat, rather than shaping them myself. Any ideas?

Van Dyke's Restorers should have what you're looking for.

There's a so called "fiber rush" that can be found in craft stores in large balls, in various thicknesses. It's really twisted heavy paper. Weaving a chair seat is easy. It can then be varnished or shellacked.

Another option may be the shaker fabric tape. It works best if the seat area is fairly square. I've woven some foam in between the top and bottom of the tape. It adds a softer feel and some weight to chairs that are a bit top heavy and tippy.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
