If you have access to back issues of Fine Woodworking, there was a two part article in #56 and #57 with a detailed discussion of wooden clockworks. #10 and #15 also had wooden clock articles. IIRC, the trouble spots were reducing friction in the wheel and pinion bearings and wheels going out of round due to swelling and shrinking caused by humidity changes.
I still have issues 56 and 57 and a quick glance indicates that they are going to be very usefull. 10 and 11 are before my time. I do have some lignum vitie for friction spots. I intend the first couple of attempts to be learning exercises as I have no idea how clocks work so there will not be too much attention to fine detail. Many thanks.
