I’m interested in making Wooden Hinges, has anyone got any experiences?
I thought I’d use finger joints rounded off, with a wooden pin, with no metal parts.
Any help on design, material choice and how to mount then to quite heavy elm doors.
Much appreciated

Andy,
Using a rounded "finger joint" works well, you also have to make sure that the space between the fingers are concave at the same radius. Tried using wood pins but found that changes in the wheather caused problems, went to using brass. By filling the holes, one needs to use a magnifying glass to tell. These were of course for small jewlery boxes. I'm not too sure if I would attempt using wooden hinges for a door, although I do recall reading an article in FWW back in the early 80s about wooden hinges and locks. FWIW

*I use wooden hinges on everything from small boxes to large cabinets , but I've got to tell you that finger joints are not the way to go. View Image
*Dave,FWIW, Grizzly offers a router bit for making wooden hinges. It essentially makes a finger joint, which is basically what a hinge is. I would be interested is a description of how you make your wooden hinges. (your link does not respond).Dano
*The link checks out fine here. The hinges I make are made using a drill press and vary in size depending on the timber and the weight they need to carry. View Image
*Dave,Thanks, from what I can see, it looks like a finger joint; albeit one finger to a side.Dano
*Dave in Cairnslots of nice photos you leave around the place, do you have a web site so I can see the whole lot?AJ
