I have rencently bought a Sjobergs bench with both face and tail vices, both have a wooden screw. How should I maintain the screws to prevent them becoming tight to turn
thanks

A wee bit of wax applied to the threads with an old toothbrush.
What elmaduro said! I use Johnson's paste wax; Minwax makes a similar product. Also good for machine tables and hand plane soles.
I did try warm beeswax but that seemed to make it worse, so I rubbed it off with a scotch pad, I read somewhere that placing fine pumice in the threads can help, but I think the slight swelling has something to do with the cold weather in the UK atm, although I thought wood was affected more by humidity than heat
