Hi
Does anyone know where I could find plans and hardware required to make wooden louvered window shutters. I think I saw something on a New Yankee workshop show but can’t find it now.
Thanks
Roger

If perchance you should want something that doesn't have louvers, and you want to put it on the wall on the outside, you could look over some pictures from the shutter manufacturers to get ideas of look, and then build them like a raised panel door in the size that fits your window. That is how I am approaching some that I am doing for my home, no real plan, just going on size of the old ones, (approximately) and I am going to use a simple style raised panel that looks like some of the real expensive ones in catalogs. I'd use stock that is about an inch thick finished so you have some real substance to the assembly, just my opinion there. Seems like everywhere you look there are louvered shutters, and while they look nice, they are on most every house on earth.
Norm's plan is a good one to set up the jigs for making the louvers though, I'd say that is the best set up I've ever seen. You need jigs for that kind of thing, no question. I looked all over the net for any other kind of shutter plans, and for what I found nothing comes close to Norm's idea, unless you have a CNC machine laying about the house.

Hi Rog, Hey I looked into making my own shutters last year and came up with Norm's plans and other plans I found in another woodworking publication. I also purchased the plantation shutter router bit set from Woodline to go along with these plans. As I began to set up to make them, I came to the realization that the set up wasn't worth all the time to just make them for only two windows, so I ended up purchasing them. So now I have a plantation shutter router bit set that I may never use. I'll try and look up that other article on making shutters and let you know where I found it. And then if your interested I would sell you my router bit set. When I ordered it last year I had to wait two months or so because were on back order. They must have been a hot item last year. I'll try and get back to you later, probably tomorrow.

Hi
Thanks for all the info. Norm's site even has the video on making them. They do look a little "jig" heavy.
I also like the idea of raised panel outside shutters. I need about a half dozen of those.
Thanks again
Roger
