I receive numerous emails announcing Woodpecker tools being released. They appear to be very well made and useful but also a little pricey. I recently have been seeing advertisements on Facebook for several Woodpecker tools at a small fraction of the cost advertised in the Woodpecker catalog in the most recent Fine Woodworking magazine. e.g. Drill Guide Facebook price – $49.99; catalog price $259.99. There are numerous other tools available on FB at a similar reduced price. The “Woodpeckers” brand is clearly visible on the FB advertisements. Has anyone had any experience ordering the FB version of these tools?

There are counterfeit Woodpeckers tools being sold. If you go to their site you can find info on what to look for.
The way I look at it is, I am never going to sell something worth 250 bucks for 50. And no one is ever going to sell me something, new, at 1/5 the price. It's not a thing.
If someone is offering something at a fantastic bargain, I just assume they are trying to cheat me. I prefer not to enthusiastically participate in my own exploitation.
The ads look incredibly authentic, they must lift the photos and videos from the Woodpecker website. I’ve since found an ad for the drill guide for $33.99. As the old saying goes “if it seems too good to be true….it probably is”.
Thanks for the feedback.
As a manufacturer, I would love for information like this to be sent to me regarding my products.
I'm certain Woodpeckers would be grateful if you sent them a link to the offending ad. Facebook and others are pretty aggressive in addressing fraud and copyright issues on their sites.
They have said thanks when I did it! I now just report them to facebook as a scam - if we all do that they will be removed quickly.
And they would just love to get your credit card info!
Woodpeckers is well aware. I found out via a woodpeckers email warning me of the issue, complete with examples of what to look for.
This counterfeiting does establish their success as a company. Hope they get the peddlers shut down.
I'm not sure it establishes their success so much as it reflects their prices.
No one is counterfeiting Harbor Freight tools, there would be little to no profit.
On that same point, I've not really heard of any other hand tools being copied. There are plenty of successful brands to choose from.
Lie Nielsen, Lee Valley, and Glen Drake all have counterfeiters out there. I'm sure there are others.
I guess I haven't come accross them, Thanks
One more reason to buy from reputable dealers only
A couple of years ago, there were numerous ads on FB for "Porter Cable" dovetail jigs, at about 1/2 the normal price. These didn't even look like the PC products; different style and colors. The photos of the jigs showed no name, just "Dovetail Jig."
I notified FB and PC, but they persisted for another 6 months.
Be very careful with Facebook. I had the same thing happen on ebay. they had a tool I wanted for 25% less than the going rate. So I ordered it. Received an email saying it shipped. After a week I became concerned went back to ebay and seller had closed his account. Registered a complaint with ebay and they returned my money. I don't think facebook covers your losses.
Chinese made copy-cat tools are ubiquitous on the internet and unfortunately for Woodpeckers will not be stamped out nor really even suppressed. If you want the quality of a Woodpeckers tool you have to go to the source, or at least to a reputable tool dealer. The price is high, and for some of their tools well worth it.
