Hi, need an old-timer here. Made this exact piece about twenty years ago and buyer loved it. Now, yesterday on the web I saw these two pictures and want to make another; problem is I moved about five times in the interim and don’t have the plans. The gentleman who posted the photos noted. (“ built this pie safe for my wife using a plan published in Woodsmith Magazine in 1998.”). Problem is I went to Woodsmith site, ended up checking archives for 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s…..no plans. Anybody out there in the vast reach of FW know where there’s a copy? Thanks.

It's from Woodsmith #55 Feb 1988. If you can personal message me I can share my copy. I can't seem to pm you.

FWW also featured a Pie Safe design in issue #182 (Jan/Feb 2006) by Mike Dunbar.
Back in the day, the only plans published in magazines seemed to be butler's tray tables, cobbler's benches, roll top desks, and pie safes. Man, those editors must have thought everyone was baking a ton of pies.
In the olden days, when I was a bairn, there were no fridges as there was no electricity to run them and only rich folk had ice houses (next to their Grecian-style folly). The pie safe was used to keep the pie-fly out of the delicious crusty items, as the holes in the doors were made smaller than the greedy flies.
Of course, the rascals got in there somehow anyway. Many were the times when I hurried eagerly to the larder only to find the slice of pork-growler I was looking forward to had a large bluebottle roaming in and over it. This was off-putting, even to a ravenous bairn such as me!
