Good holidays to all:
For some time I have been thinking about replacing my old craftsman table saw. I bought it around 30 years ago and it has served me well. I read the the recent edition of FWW and the review of hybrid saws. I looked at the Woodtec page and was confused about the fence options.
In FWW the review covered the 148-271 and stated a maximum rip capacity of 36″. On the woodtek webpage they offer two fence arrangements. One is 30″ (148-271) and the other is 50″ (148-274).
How does one get a maxium rip capacity of 36″ with a 30″ fence? If this is really possible, then what is the maxium rip capcity of a 50″ fence?
I am sorry if these are dumb questions, but it has been a lone time since I shopped for machinery. Back then the question was do you want the saw or not.

Merry Christmas Fishhead! I'm not sure about the Woodtek fence, but with most Biesemeyer style fences that use angle iron and a rail tube, its possible to slide the front rail over on the fixed mounting angle iron for a bit more rip capacity as needed. I slid my Biese 30" fence over by one pre-drilled bolt hole for a new capacity of 40". It's now held in place with only 3 bolts instead of 4, which is still plenty stable. It requires remounting the switch and relocating or replacing the tape.
If you're looking for more info about the Woodtek, it appears to be the same design as the GI 50-220 and Sunhill Machinery saw, and likely comes from the same Gee Tech factory in Taiwan.
