Yes there are. Most carving chisels are ground to 15 degrees which is too fine to hold up in sever service. Turning tools for spindle work are ground to an angle between 25 and 30 degrees. Further the shape of carving tools is all wrong. Not only will you be stifling the learning process it could be dangerous.
