Why yes there are several of us out here in the FWW cyber-shop from central PA. Actually there are two wood working clubs in your area as well, one loated in Harrisburg, and one located in York. The two clubs interact frequently so belonging to one is as good as belonging to the other. Where in sunny, rats no snow yet, central PA are you located?
Quite a few. Check out the four woodworking clubs that meet at Woodcraft in Harrisburg. Woodworkers, turners, carvers, and scroll sawyers. The folks at the Harrisburg Woodcraft are all woodworkers and teach some great classes.
Email me your email address and we can have you put on the newsletters of the two woodworking clubs -- Harrisburg and York.

Hey, I'll be interested in your repsonses. I'm considering a position that would put me in the collegeville area possibly with relocation. You are in cherry mecca for sure. I would expect wood prices to be good in your general area, is that true?
Bones,
Collegeville? State College? As you may know, that is about 2 plus hours north and west of York.
Cherry mecca is also further north. There is some cherry local to York / Harrisburg, but mecca would be considered several hours north.

But if prices are good a 2hr drive is nothing. I know of a few folks that work at this business live in lancaster and commute. I currently live in STL, and if I were to get my wife close to Hershey, she'd think I just gave her the hope dimond. Take care.
check out http://www.groffslumber.com/, their price list is available on from their website.
bones,
I am 4 minutes from the center of Hershey. You do know there really is no such town as Hershey don't you?! In spite of the fact of all the signs welcoming you to Hershey, sweetest place on earth, etc.? And, having its own zipcode? What most people call Hershey is really Derry Township.
On a warm summer's day we can smell the cocoa beans roasting. And, people put cocoa bean shells on their flowerbeds for mulch.
Pardon my curiousity, but what would be special about Hershey? And, what is "this business?" Is it woodworking or something else? And commute?
There are some great woodworkers across various parts of Pennsylvania. I see that someone has referred you to Groff. They have some excellent wood. But another great thing here are the various sawmills. Cheaper than than Groff, Hearne, etc., etc. I certainly am not knocking Groff, Hearne, or others as I gladly shop there also. They will have a much wider selection and top of the line woods.
I'll get you the club newsletters.

Well to answer the questions. Before I moved here to STL, the wife, kids and I, made annual trips from Roanoke VA. Loved it. We never went to the amusement park just to chocolate world. I spent a small fortune there. I can remember my first drive down the main street with the kisses as lamp posts and the smell of chocolate. Secondly, I don't know of too many women that don't love chocolate. We like the area too, with the mountains it reminds me of where I grew up in Southwest VA. We usually would stay between York and Hershey, so I could go to the Harley plant in York for the tour, and then hit the Renaissance fair. As to the job, I wish It could be a woodworking job, but not. I work in manufacturing, mainly computers. As to the commute, fortunately now the kids are up old enough, that I can live out a little. We also plan to downsize a little bit. We no longer feel the need for a 3500 sqrft house. I'm planning on going smaller with a piece of land with no homeowners assoc, so I can store a few thousand bf of lumber without somebody squawking and complaining. The move is not a definite yet, but a good possibility. Our company is going through a big downsizing, so I'm afraid my head is probably on the block, and this is an opportunity that's hard to pass up. It's the sign of the times. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks.
