In ‘Touring a Woodworker’s Kitchen’ video on Scott Gibson’s kitchen cabinets, he talks about incorporating a lazy susan that does not have a bar which allows for more storage space.
Having only recently started receiving Fine Woodworking magazine, I missed the July/ Augus 2006 issue but I did sign up for the on-line access. The first article that I down loaded was the PDF for the A Woodworker’s Kitchen by Scott Gibson.
I was disappointed when I did not find information on how to build the lazy susan without the bar. Since he mentioned it in the video, I thought it would be included in the article. Is it possible that I could get that techinical information from him?
I also have another question of Mr. Gibson. If he was going to redesign the lower cabinets with draws instead of doors, would he still include stiles or run the drawer face or front the length of the cabinet.
I would very much appreciate this information.
Thank you.

Nils--
Sorry it took me a while to get back to you. I'll ask Scott Gibson both of your questions and give you his response ASAP.

Nils--
Scott Gibson got back to me (and you) right away, so kudos to him. Here's what he said:
Fine Homebuilding published an article on making the lazy susan in September 2000 (issue #133, pp. 98-103). It was written by Rex Alexander, a cabinetmaker in Michigan. Go to http://www.taunton.com/store/pages/backissue_fh.asp? or call 800-888-8286 to order that issue.
As to your second question, there actually is a bank of drawers in one of
the lower cabinets. I included dividers between drawers that are 1 in. wide, allowing the drawers to be inset like the doors. I think that eliminating them would give the cabinets a clean, contemporary flavor -- not exactly right for this kitchen. Then again, it's all a matter of personal taste.
Best of luck.

Thank you so much for the information. I will have to look at the article to see how it was done.
I appreciate the ability to be able to ask question about articles.
Thank you
Nils
Best of luck, Nils.
