Hi. I live in Edmonton, Alberta. In early August 2006, I will be at a conference in Tampa, Florida. Everytime I travel, I try to mix some local woodworking events in – see the local woodworking stores, exhibits, find exotic woods to acquire, visit someone of note, whatever. For example, in 2004 when I was in Portland, I visited and had dinner with Steve Knight of Knight Toolworks, visited a downtown fine furniture gallery, and visited three of their wood and woodworking stores. That was a great trip.
I do not know Tampa at all. If you know Tampa, is there anything or anyone you can suggest to help me out? Of course, travelling to and fro once I am there may be a challenge (as I currently do not plan to have a car), but I hope to review the possibilities before I get to Tampa, and perhaps set things in place so I can get around. Thanks for your time.

You might try the Infinity carbide router bits manufactory in Clearwater. Also call the Woodcraft in Pinellas Park, Pinellas County, to see whether they information on local clubs, particular craftsmen. I lived there decades ago, long before I became interested in the craft.
Michael...
I wish I could say there was plenty for a woodworker to do in Tampa...but here's my 2 cents
Cocobolo Inc (http://www.cocoboloinc.com ) a boutique, tiny lumber place for just exotics
Hardwood Lumber of Lakeland ...a bit of a drive, nice guys, usual selection and a few wild things.
Florida Craftsmen (http://www.floridacraftsmen.net/ ) a gallery and shop for local artisans
Willow Arts Gallery ....gallery of cool stuff...
Swann Woodwork (me)....you'd be most welcome to stop by. We're in an old cigar factory and we're in the middle of making a full on pirate boat bed and we are not boat builders. Do you know where we can get a stuffed parrot? (813 503 7061)
Will be interesting to see what everyone else comes up with.
Weather is lovely here this time of year - 80's low humidity.
Cheers
Alison
