woodworking school networks on West and East Coast after graduation
Dear All,
In a prior post two(ish) years ago, I had asked about some woodworking schools and received some feedback. I don’t need more feedback on the schools. As business travel puts me near these schools, I’ve visiting them in person. I’m a hobby woodworker hoping to quite the day job at age 60 and go back to woodworking school to learn and improve my abilities. I have no intention of sell my work or making a living from it. Woodworking is a passionate hobby of mine that I hope to keep me busy (along with volunteer work I do and teaching chemistry at a local college a couple of times a week).
My question has to do with the “social networks” these schools provide post graduation. For example how is the Krenov School (formerly College of the Redwoods) social network on the West Coast and on the East Coast? I’d image Krenov school may have a more robust social network on the West Coast than the East Coast given the school is located on the West Coast. Same questions regarding North Bennett in Boston and Center for Furniture Craftmanship in Main. I’m guessing East Coast likely more robust network/social connections on East Coast instead of West Coast.
Do any of you know one way or the other? I’m likely to stay on the West Coast when I retire. Would love your feedback if you have any knowledge. Many thanks and this could be a good problem to have in 5ish years.
Sincerely,
Joe

In the Fort Bragg area there is something called "The Coast Collective" formed by former Krenov students. I don't know much about it other than that it exists, or at least I think it does. Once in the Bay Area , North bay particularly there was ,or maybe still is, the Baulines Craft Guild that was started by Tom Donofrio and Art Carpenter to create apprentice programs for various crafts. Tom and Art are no longer alive and the last known member( known to me that is) was Michael Cullen who is in Petaluma. I see Art's son ,who has taken over the Espenet legacy , from time to time. I'll make a point to ask him if it still exists. There is something called Tam Makers that showed up in a store front in San Rafael. I'm not sure what they do. It seems that they have some connection to College of Marin.
Thanks for the info on the Bay Area organizations. This will be helpful.
