I’m going to be in Madison, WI for a few days. Are there any things nearby of interest to a fine woodworker?

JohnH,
The First Unitarian Society Meeting Hall is a Frank Lloyd Wright designed building. It would be interesting from an architectual stand point, but not much furniture. Located on University Bay drive.
The Chazen Museum has some furniture on display. It is located on campus near University and Park Street. In the Humanities Building on one of the top floors there are some woodworking studios. Some of the work of these craftsmen have been displayed in FWW. Humanities is very close to the Chazen.
Wright's Taliesen is located near Spring Green, WI about 40 miles
west of Madison off of US 14. They used to have some of his furniture designs.

As a Madison native, I see the Frank Lloyd Wright influence growing in the city every time I go home, from the Monona Terrace Convention Center to the airport. For a heavy dose of the real deal, Taliesin, Wright’s Wisconsin home, is the place to visit. Since there are residents still living on the property, you can only visit by guided tour. The Taliesin Web site has more info: http://www.taliesinpreservation.org/
I also remember Little Norway, about 20 miles south of Madison, being interesting. The unique and ornately carved buildings are the big draw, but they’re filled with Norse antiques and folk art as well. http://www.littlenorway.com
