I am planing on going to-morrow as well, to see if I can buy one of those Premiere Fusion blades everybody is raving about !

I went today. I thought it was decent. The heyday of these things is probably past but I'm glad I went. It's good to see some machinery up close (the Steel City stuff actually looks pretty nice) but I was happy to get the chance to try out a lot of Lie-Nielsen planes. Lee Valley was there too and they had all of their planes set up. They actually work very well, but I didn't like the look or feel of them as much as the LN planes. (Maybe that makes me a snob.) I picked up a LN 164-I really liked the feel and performance of it.
I personally like watching the bench demonstrations. This is the first year I haven't seen Frank Klausz at this, but I was watching a guy named Tim Peters do joinery with Japanese tools. He was pretty good and was entertaining as well.
Anyway if it's not too long of a drive for you I would recommend going.
Maybe someday I'll know a little something.
hey thanks, i'm interested in the same sort of demos that you talked about. i do plan to get up there in the morning and try to take in everything.
i was also hoping the lie-nielsen would be there so that's a bonus too.

gmoney,
This could be one of the greatest guy days ever:
- go to Springfield and pick up a couple of Egg McMuffins for the trip
-buy a LN block plane, put in pocket
-come home in time for the game, get johnsonville brats on the way home
-watch game, fondle plane, eat brats
-watch '24 hours' on Fox tonight, fondle plane, pass gass
You left a few out. Grab a snack sitting on couch, dog on one side and plane on the other. Bend over to pick up a Cheeto and pass gas again, making dog growl and slink off couch so he doesn't get the blame. Holding plane, nod off and decide it's finally time to hit the hay. Spoon with plane. Pass gas for 20 seconds and it changes pitch 3 times. Laugh yourself to sleep.
"I cut this piece four times and it's still too short."
Did you wind up going? What did you think?
Maybe someday I'll know a little something.
i did go on sunday, but got there after noon. i really should have had more time there. garrett hack did a question and answer with a small group of us and demo'd his sharpening techniques. that was interesting. also saw some of the lv and ln stuff up close. those ln chisels are like velvet in the hand. perfectly balanced and lighter than i am used to. it took a lot to leave those behind. also saw a bandsaw technique for making something like a pot with a single piece of wood. i'll give that one a try. all in all i was glad i went.
I thought the LN chisels were kind of foolish when they first made them. Fifty bucks for a chisel? Then I tried them at the LN show they had in Marlborough back in December. Bought some that day. They just have a great feel, I agree.
Maybe someday I'll know a little something.
i may give in partly and buy the smallest chisel only for the dovetail work i'm trying to learn.
i was at the show at the very end and as i was walking away from the lie neilsen area with drool on my chin, the guy offered me the set of chisels and the tool roll for $275. i said it was still too much and that was that. if he had said less i might sleeping with some steel tonight. actually, i couldn't totally hold out any longer and i bought the adj. low angle plane on sale from woodcraft and it arrived today. now if it only had a chisel for company!
Yeah, true confession: I only bought 3 chisels at the LN show. That was still a lot but I got the sizes I use the most. I'll get them here and tehre to minimize the cash layout.
Maybe someday I'll know a little something.
I'm probablty too late but what are the dates for that show?
unfortunately, you are right. the show was last weekend.
