Want to hear what top dimensions others are using? Especially those of you that joint your stock by hand.
I was flattening some glued up panels yesterday (25″ X 35″) and kept thinking if a wider bench would have allowed me to work more efficently. Current bench is 25″ across (with a tool tray – not making it into the next bench). Part of the panel was always hanging over and I found it frustrating moving it back and forth. Of course a wider bench means issues with reaching the center from both sides.
This would be my second workbench in less than five years. How many again are we supposed to build in our lifetime?
Thanks,
Kosta

I built 2. I have had the recent one for 4 years now and I see not one thing in its design I would change. My bench is a center of the room bench with a top dimension of 34" X 88z' which includes a tool tray.

36 x 72, with side and end vice, as well as tool tray in the center. Won't change a thing.
For the job you are describing, I would want access all around the panel and probably do this on top of my table saw, by clamping in-between strips, meaning the clamps are not in the way of the plane.
