Working some Sapele. BURN marks. Remove
May NOT work for you! As in Your Mileage may vary! As on TV.
I was making eight tapered legs for two beds using Sapele and Panga Panga. I have never worked Sapele before. OR Pamga Panga!
So you know up front. I have some planes but not good at using them.. I usually use my hand scrapers.
My shop is very small and tapering a long pencil post is a challenge! And then some.
I have eight to make!
This Sapele likes to burn! It is all quarter sawn and sometimes shows a wonderful ray along the length of the post.
I wanted to keep most of it!
I’m no good at using planes! Period! I use mostly my hand scrapers. I think good it and then some!
On the burn marks (ME?) I tried, and worked for me.
Just scraping away at a burn mark can leave a TRENCH in the stick you are working!
I found sort of by accident. As in Sweat dripping off my head That fell on a Burn mark!
There is a old TV Add. That said.. ‘Try it you will like it!’ I do NOT remember the product!
I have some bottled water. Not mine. I can drink out of old well water!
I used the bottled water just to keep strange stains away!
I have several old painting brushes. As in fine tipped.. Dunk them into the ‘special’ water. Wipe the water along the ‘BURN’. Before the little water evaporates.. Hit it with your scraper!
OK, So I actually spit on my finger and wiped my spit across the burn mark.. MUCH LESS wood taken off!

'interesting guy to speak to'
No, I have, all my life, been very quiet around people. A pretty woman I seem to ease up a bit!
Not talking much was a problem when I traveled. Folks always wanted to talk. I came to work, not talk. The biggest problem is that many think you are a 'Snob' or worse...
I love people, just not a talker in 'real' life.
Yes I do.. And the following little dots...
AND I majored in English.
Sorry, I tend to type as I think. Not how I was taught.
You certainly don't need to apologize. I was just pointing out the obvious.I agree with Chris that the impression it gives is someone who still sees wonder in all the little things in life, and that would be someone interesting to talk to.On the other hand, I often find after reading a post full of exclamation marks that I breathe a little sigh of relief, and wonder what all the excitement was about...regards,

I DO! I have been babysitting my two China Dolls for about 4 years now. Three to four days a week! 6 AM till whenever the Mother gets back here (She is a Teacher and sometimes stays with her class after School until ALL the children get picked up by a KNOWN family person) Bad neighborhood... Most folks are ALWAYS late! My Daughter just puts up with it. Not a Public school.
She once told me ALONG time ago that she was the middle child and always left out?
She will NOT let any Child be alone OR left out? She loves me anyway.. I never thought it was that way?
Morning Will ,
I do the same for dings and dents and such , always I first try and swell the dent a few times , then scrape or sand .

"my shop is very small..."
will,
your statement reminded me of my first workshop. i had taken up carving wood and so did not need much room. i did ,however, need to be out of the weather. the space between the outside wall of my house and the inside wall of my bedroom was about three and one half feet deep. the reason for this was the fact that this was an upstairs attic bedroom with pitched ceilings. the walls of the room were only four feet tall, or so. this "space" served me well for two years.

EeF!
Same here. My wife that passed on to a better life? Lived in the Victorin next to me.
We even had a 'string telephone with Tin Cans to talk!' We were once cut off because an old tree was hit with lightning...
