Hello fellow woodworkers and makers of fine sawdust (the latter is me),
It has been awhile since some have posted pics of the workshop, I am starting to take mine from a garage to a workshop. I am just looking to get some suggestions and ideas from other workshops as far as layout, cabinets, benchs and tools.
Thanks,
Shaker

Terry.. fabulous shop, I mean fabulous! I have two questions if you don't mind.
I notice your benchtop planer is situated somewhat higher than a full floor model planer, say a Delta. I was thinking of mounting my new Delta 13 benchtop planer the same way but thought it might be too high. I've never used a planer.. please let me know your thouhgts on the matter.
Also, I see you have an 8" jointer. I was thinking of buying a 6" mainly because of cost. If you have a planer.. when does such a wide jointer become useful?
Excuse the newbie questions. I've been at this a little over a year and up to now.. working only with plywood. I'm ready for the next step. Thanks.
Bill,
Thanks for the kind words.
The planer is at a comfortable height for me. Never really thought about it being lower than it is.
I very rarely face joint any board. I have the 8" jointer becasue of it's extra bed length, not width. The 75" bed allows me to straighten longer stock much more easily.

Thanks, Terry. Now I feel comfortable mounting my planer higher.. and buying a 6" jointer.
Shaker,
My wife bought me 'The Workshop' book for my birthday a couple of months ago. Its a fun read with lots of beautiful pictures...you might want to take a look. There are no detailed specs but it does give you a sense of overall environment..and how that compliments the objectives. BTW, she has already selected the shop she would most like to be in.....
BG,
That book is on my list to get. Sounds like it has a lot of good ideas in it.
Thanks,
Shaker
