has anybody else seen the gray cabinets on pg. 28 of the latest Home Depot advertising circular? Good Loooooooord! what is that supposed to be- some sort of faux curtain effect? what’s it made of? badly raked drywall mud? thinset? stucco? actual fabric? molded plastic or __? under the picture it says “Coming to The Home Depot Betty Crocker, America’s Most Trusted Kitchens” so is this crap supposed to look like cake frosting? ummm, Betty- you might want to just stick to the actual cooking and leave cabinet design to people who don’t need a seeing eye dog.
I hope somebody is able to post a picture of these tragically ugly monstrosities so that anybody who missed it can “enjoy” them, too. I would pay serious money for a list of all the folks who actually have these cabinets installed in their own kitchens-you could sell them ANYTHING!

Mitch,
Haven't seen these, but Texston makes a couple of products that can be used on furniture that makes stuff look like it's made out of stone. I've seen a couple of reception offices for architectural firms done with the stuff, and it looks great.

Someday having a kitchen that looks like the Flintstones' is going to be in style, I tell ya!

Ed,
Here's a pic of a counter done with a texston plaster. The wall also.
Not too bad, for trying to make wood look like granite or marble. Ed

According to all the movies on the SciFi channel all future kitchens are going to be steel, aluminum or bright white. Gag me with a spoon, man!.
We have that fake marble formica in the lobby and by the elevators at work. Thats what it looks like to me, fake marble formica. I don't get some of the materials out there today.
Enjoy, Roy
There's a guy in my town making a killing installing polished marble and granite kitchen countertops - seems like that's what everybody and his brother wants nowadays. Someday when I collect the requisite quantities of money and motivation, I may go that route with my own kitchen and bathroom countertops.
By the way, hope you're still playing your guitars, Roy - I have learned a great fingerstyle version of Pachabel's "Canon" in drop D tuning.

I saw the ad you're talking about. It's definitely "actually" some kind of fabric that's pleated and then stiffened OR something else made to look like it. Can't imagine anyone finding that attractive, however, there's always the possibility that it looks better in person.
Rob and Molly & Sadie (the Wonder Labs!) "Hey, Mom - wonder how long that stuff would last with us jumping up on it???"
