I would like to get a good idea how much you all would sell wormy chestnut picture frame stock to a profesional picture frame maker for, per lineal (sp?) foot.
This particular lady showed me a frame that she had bought for $40.00 and was asking $80.00 retail for it. There did not seem to be anything at all special about it. It was about 11″x14″, painted black, mitered corners (and you could tell where they had used some sort of filler even through the black paint ), no special type of wood ( pine i think? ) and a “plain jane” design, no nice grooves or raises to it! I couldn’t fathom someone paying $80.00 for that!!
So anyhow, with my wormy chestnut stock I’m probably going to take her a sample of unfinished just to see if she liked enough to buy it. Then maybe I’ll stain it or put a nice finish on it, if she likes? BTW, what would a good “clear coat” for it be?
So if ya’ll don’t mind givin’ me a bit of input on this, thanks. Oh, the thickest It’ll be is 3/4″-7/8″, and based on an unfished price per foot? width will be about 1 1/2″
Once again, sorry for being so long winded and thank you all for helping this newbie out.
just realized i should have posted in the buisiness section, sorry folks..

In pricing a product you have to balance what the market will bear versus what you can produce it for.
Both those requirements need considerable research, so no one who is not in that business can tell you. And anyone who is, probably wouldn't tell you, cost and pricing not being something anyone likes to inform competitors about.
This is something you got to figure out for yourself.
