I want to design a magnificent wraparound table for my Powermatic tablesaw, one that would provide outfeed support that would include downdraft sanding table in the back end, drawers for tool storage, a router table on the right side with drawers/storage below. Should be great for ripping 8×4 sheets. LThis would be big enough for assembly work and sanding, as well as supporting the saw. Don’t have design ideas yet, just the concept.

Great idea! Nice saw! Besides building it yourself (let us know), your quickest solution for precision is Jointech, Inc., who has already developed it. Contact: http://www.jointech.com Their telephone number is 1-800-619-1288 to discuss your ideas, or request a catalog. Their fax number if needed is 210-377-1282. Congrats!

I built essentially the same setup less the downdraft capacity and the router since I have a freestanding router cabinet. The unit measures 4.5' x 6' and has drawers all the way around. In retrospect, I wish I had though of the downdraft sanding area since it would have eay to incorporate into the design. One suggestion: I used industrial-level leveling feet on the base to get a perfect match to the saw rather than trying to shim the saw to the cabinet. The cabinets sit on the base framework. Since I will be relocating in several years, retiring - yippee - the cabs are modular as well. At the end of the saw, to support the long wing, I built an "L" shaped wrap-around shelf unit that fits flush with the front and the end to store books, manuals, saw blades and related equipment leaving sufficient room for the angle crank. I also used small leveling feet between the underside of the saw and top of the shelf unit. So far it has worked as planned.

Doug: Many thanks. Sounds very similar to what I want. You have any pictures? Have you published anything about it? Max
I can do some pics tonight if you like. The shop is disaster since I am just recovering from Christmas projects but I should be able to clear a path sufficient to get some shots.

These are the pics of my out-table/storage unit.

NICE!
Very Nice pictures! Is that MDF you used? Does it take screws well and how is the glue-up? I would like to make a smaller version for my much smaller single car garage shop that incorporates my workbench. I have to make it modular though with wheels for different sections to get my truck back in the garage. I want to develop a way to wheel the parts in place and hook them together quickly and accurately and then be able to unhook and roll them against the back wall.
Mostly MDF and some particle board. Both take take wood screws well and the particle boiard takes glue but MDF really doesn't. Structurally, they are very solid since the base is yellow pine and well-braced and the top of each cabinet has 1.5 x 1.5 yellow pine bracing to hold the laminated top.
That is very nice! I like incorporating the storage. I was considering a hinged table top that could drop down when not in use, but I like what you did. I noticed you had the SF mobile base. Just curious when was the last time you moved it? I have not budged mine since I bought it.
I move it fairly often to keep the wheels from getting flat spots. When I move back to NM in several years I will probably replace the feet with larger pads.
Very nice looking. Many thanks. Gives me lots of ideas for my own...I may put router table on both sides of the saw, just a thought...and I'll add the downdraft sanding/assembly thing and drawers for blade and router storage stuff. Max
