Hello, The word got out in my school that I am handy in the shop! The school runs an amazing WWI Trench simulation exercise as part of the History course. We would like to make approximately 50 WWI style rifle replicas (not working) to be used during this simulation. Does anybody know of existing plans or have any advice? Our school is in Canada so the style of that period would be the 303 Lee Enfield Rifle but anything that looks like that era would be fine. Thanks

I dont know how the situation works in Canada, but here you can get Lee Enfield rifles for as little as $30. There are in poor condition ( by that I mean they have had a few zillion rounds through them and dont shoot so straight any more ) but for looks only would do the job just fine. Take out the firing pins and or the whole bolt and they would be totally safe. I am assuming you couldnt make anything to look similar for that kind of money.
I have a nice long branch one with a new barrel, shoots like a dream, not for loan though.......:)
best of luck

Check with the Band Director of your school. They usually have catalogues for 'Flag Line' teams that include pretty 'rifles' made entirely of wood with a pipe barrel. They are usually painted white, but should be available in 'natural wood' coloring Another source may be a VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Post. They may have 'dress' rifles used for ceremonial purposes only.
