Ok folks I am looking for opinions and such.
Last year I got the old man a work bench for X mass (nice Diefenback) that has sense then turned into a two thousand dollar shelf (the old guy tends to put things everywhere but I digress, he will clean it off when he want to use it)
So we are getting close to the time to start thinking about this year. (I finish my Xmas shopping the week of Thanksgiving, makes the holidays more fun when you do not have to run around like a mad man)
This year I was thinking about being a little cheaper something around 400 or so.
So we have a few options, the shop is pretty well fixed for major tools. So I have the following ideas.
Removable Splitter from Biesmeyer (or similar) 100 to 150?
Over Arm guard for TS. 400 ish?
Room Dust Filter. 200 to 400
Canister for Delta DC (I think someone makes one of these) ???
PC Armadillo Sander (the new little guy) 120
Wixey Digital Fence Readout 150
Pattern Makers Vise (from Wood Craft) 230
Veritus Router Plan or LN 130
Veritus Power Tool Guide (100″) 130
Veritus Shelf Drilling Jig (shelf Pins) 170
Well those are my ideas at this point. And FYI the TS is a Delta Left Tilt w/50″ Biesmeyer. Like I said the shop is pretty well stocked with just about anything you may want short of a Lath (neither of us turn) or a wide drum sander (just to expensive) So what do you think of the above list. In some ways I am thinking that going for the safety bit would be best. The old man is 76 so anything that makes him safer in the shop is probably a good idea.

Doug,
Top of my list of recommendations would be the bies snap in splitter. Best $100 in safety equipment I ever spent. I always put it on when possible.
Next would be cannister filter for DC
Next would be air cleaner/filter
I have a bies overhead guard, it sits unused most of the time off of the saw. I just can't get used to using it. It's great when I'm breaking down sheets of plywood, almost everything else it seems to get in the way.
Just my $.02

Doug how's his wood pile?

Now I know you didn't post this in the hand tools section but have you thought of something from Lie-Nielsen Toolworks?
Doug,
Those are nice ideas. I have one more thought for you. If that nice workbench is always full, would some storage solutions help him? As I see it a messy shop is as dangerous as an unguarded tool.
Well the wood pile is pretty full at this point as we just tack about 250bd ft of various woods in it last night.
With luck when we finish putting the rest of the shop together he will have more then enough space to keep things unfortanatly he is bad at putting things back, what he really needs is a robot to put stuff up for him, but I think that would be a bit more then the $400 range! :)
As for hand tools he is not that into them, he has (well we have) the basic planes and I am slowing building up more of them but it would be more like I was buying the gift for me if I picked up something from LN. On the other hand I think he could use a router plan. The type of work he does I think he would find it handy. He is (slowly) begining to think that speacial planes are useful to clean up things.
Right now I am thinking that I eather go after the dust (Filter and find some way to put a canister on top of the DC) or I go after saftey and do something about the guard/splitter. (He will NOT use the p.o.s. one that came with the saw.
On that line does anyone know about where to find either a canister that fits on a Delta DC 1.5 hp?
or what are the options for getting a blade gaurd and or splitter for a delta 10 Left tilt table say (50" Biesmeyer fence)?

How about a Grrripper?

Thirty-two years after buying my Powermatic cabinet saw I installed the original equipment guard splitter. I found the Biesemeyer splitter to be fine until I needed to tilt the blade, then I had to remove the splitter and its carriage. That was way too much trouble. The Powermatic splitter is easy to install and remove so I use it.
I installed an Excalibur over-arm blade guard for the dust collection feature. I don't use it.
