I recently picked up a plane at a yard sale that was in reasonably good condition, just some minor surface rust that cleaned up easily. The blade is marked “Uncle Sam Chicago”. It appears to be a Stanley clone. Anyone have any information on this plane, when manufactured, value, etc.?

It also has “903” on the iron.

Can anyone point me to where I might find some information about this plane? Thanks, Art
Hi Art,
The best I could find in the Old Tool List archive here. Not greatly helpful I'm afraid, but it's a start.
Cheers, Alf
Thanks Alf, that looks very interesting, I'm going to go to the Vaughn & Bushnell site and see if I can find anything there. The plane is cleaning up nicely and will be a nice addition to my hand tools. Art
It's definitely a Vaughn & Bushnell plane. It is 9 1/4 inches long and the iron is 1 3/4 in wide. Where would this fall in the Stanley numbering system? Art
Sounds like a no 3. A no 4 has a wider iron, 2" I think.
Thanks
