The wenge I’ve used over the years has always been a tight striped dark brown throughout. I was resawing a new board and found that the interior of the board had early wood of a medium yellow umber color, with dark latewood (or vice versa). The exterior of the board was the usual dark brown all around–it seemed to follow a pattern of case hardening, not the rings as sapwood might. Does wenge darken in the kiln or on exposure to air or sunlight? I’ve not run into this before.

Be paient, it will darken within about 2 weeks. More light may speed it along.
.... more light will speed it along. And if you are frantic, some dark solvent stain on the whole piece is always beneficial and will even up everything right away.
