The tool guide gave the Yorkcraft 6″ jointer its best value award. What do you all think of the tool? The price is the best. Is it a quality tool? What problems may exist with this tool? Or would I be a fool not to buy it at the $299 Wilke Machines is asking for it right now? Some input on the quality of the tool please.

Hi Paul and All,
I too am considering the Yorkcraft YC-6J jointer. Has anyone out there bought one? How is it?
Paul, Did you buy it? What do you think?
THanks,
Larry
Currently, I am looking at the same machine. Did you buy it and if so what has been your experience?
To Paul, Larry, & Sawdust:I bought a Yorkcraft 8-incher. I really like the fence with rack and pinion adjustment. I was hesitant about the lever adjustment for infeed table. I like the fine adjustment afforded by handwheels and for that reason considered a Grizzly at about the same price, shipping cost considered. But the lever works quite well for me. I did not consider the extra length of the Yorkcraft to make much difference. The 6-inch Yorkcraft probably has the same fence as my 8-inch. Actually, I could have been satisfied with the 6-incher. What you might want to consider is shipping cost. Grizzly and others have flat rates whereas you must pay actual charges for a Yorkcraft. A local purchase or another brand may prove to be considerably cheaper because of that. But the Yorkcraft that I have is a fine machine at a good price. It arrived with adjustments which were right on the money. I didn't expect that.RoRo
I just purchased the 6'' Yorkcraft. It assembled very easily and similar to other comments it was ready to go will very little adjustment. The Yorkcraft runs very smoothly and produces a very smooth surface. The large fence will be hepful in handing wide and long boards. Since I already have a surface planer, the six inch width should be more than enough for my projects. Thanks for the comments.
Congrats!! Enjoy!!RoRo
