Your review of dovetail jigs.
I found your review very interesting. I find though that with the great number of jigs that are on the market, each has its own drawbacks. I am an amateur cabinet maker and do it for the enjoyment and peace of mind it gives me. I always use dovetails on all my drawers but never was too pleased with the jigs on the market until I built my own from plans I got from a website: thedovetailjig.com. With my homemaid jig I can cut halfblind dovetails on my drawer fronts and through dovetails on the backs all in one shot without having to change any settings or changing cutting tools.Whats more, since it is mounted on my router table, all sawdust is immediately carried to my shopvac. I rarely use a hand held router anymore and the fact that I can use my router in a table adds a safety and cleanliness bonus. Check it out

Jig Maker,
Are you the designer / maker of the jig on the website? How about some photos and more explanation of your work?

You will find the better pictures than I can provide you on their web site: thedovetailjig.com. contact them for more info if you want more.
Looks interesting but a video clip of how it works would be helpful.
Tell me and I'll forget, show me and I'll remember, but let me try and I will understand.
Hello , I have tried to go to this web site with no results ( thedovetailjig.com ) would there be a different site for this ? The only thing that comes up is dovetailjig plans at plans now for 4.95 . I too am interested due to the lack of desent jigs that are available ( or not available ) I had seen plans for one of these jigs awhile back in a magazine but didn't print out the plans . Please let me know , Thanks
I am unable to help you access the web site. Just to check, I tried it myself today and accessed the site on the first try. You must have done something wrong all I can say is try again. Sorry but good luck
Thanks again for replying , I did finally get there . Can you ad what you used for material , and what hardware you chose to use . Thanks again
Glad you got to the site. I used baltic birch for the majority of the project. I purchased most of the other products (5/8" steel rod, screws, washers, etc) from a hardware. The knobs and plastic runner were purchased from various wood working catalogs. The construction manual suggests sources.
I did something else that was not in the instructions and that was to cover the 40"by 9" base on both sides with Formica counter top. I bought this as scrap from a kitchen counter manufacturer. You don't need to do this but it dresses it up. If you choose to do this, be sure to cover both sides. Hope this helps.
DT59, the fact that your attempt resulted in a PlansNow page makes me think the URL wasn't typed quite right, and IE did one of those search things for you instead. Try clicking on the link below, which was copied directly from my browser after a successful trip to the site:
http://www.thedovetailjig.com/
PS: That kind of "let my browser search if I make a typo in the URL" can lead to security trouble and confusion. You might want to change the settings so it doesn't do that. Here's how: Click on Tools at the top of your IE browser, select Internet Options, then click on the Advanced tab. Scroll down a little more than half-way to Search from the Address Bar (little magnifying glass icon), and click the bubble Do not search from the address bar.
Disregard all of the above if you don't use Internet Explorer.

Thanks for the info , I finally got to the correct site .
So, do you have any relationship with this company?
ALL i did was build their jig and I think its great
Just curious- If you remember, what was the total cost of building the jig, with the $45 price of the plans plus the hardware? Thanks-
I purchased the best of everything for my jig: Baltic burch plywood, plus other items from our local home depot and from the catalogs suggested in the booklet that was sent me. My supplies cost me about $ 100.00 .
I didn't use plastic spacers and opted to make them out of hard wood (Maple) and I am pleased with it.
Thank you-
BUMP ! (good question Yogi)
