I have acquired kind of a large quantity of zebra wood ( it was a steal and couldn’t pass it up).
Even though its not my favorite wood I cant put it to waste but I cant seem to find a wood to match and I think any project made entirely out of Zebra would be quite tacky. Any suggestions on what to build with Zebra???

I have a project I'm working on that combines zebra wood and walnut and I think they complement each other. The zebra wood I'm using has stripes that are wider than the dark stripes so the walnut provides a good contrast to the zebra wood. If your zebra wood has more of the dark wood how about contrasting it with malple?
Whiteish woods with a fine textured grain go well with zebrano, eg, hard and soft maple. Slainte.

Richard,
How about horse chestnut--in the same family after all.

I once made a small box for chessmen, entirely out of zebra wood. I wrapped the grain around the mitered corners and it looked really cool. Of course, that was small, and not too overpowering.
In my mind, for years, I have seen a maple jewelry box with zebra wood drawer fronts. I have one piece of zebra left in my basement - maybe someday I'll get around to it.
Enjoy.

I like Zebra as a complimentary wood to Walnut projects. Like you, I think too much Zebra wood is just too much.
I agree, walnut is the closest match to the dark grain but i still dont think it looks all that great. I have never tried combining it with maple though. I think I'll try that nextThanks guys
Hey Aaron,
I think the key to using zebrawood is to find a wood that matches the dark or the cream tones in the wood. I've used both walnut and wenge in conjunction with zebrawood with great success. I havn't tried combining it with a lighter wood yet but I've always thought it would go well with birch. Maple I feel would be a bit too light for a good match. I'm attaching a photo of a walnut and zebrawood table I made a while back. Cheers for now.

Beautiful Russ!
Did you use a vacuum bag for the beautiful veener?
Hey Don,Yeah, I have a vacuum veneer press, it's the only way to veneer. Well, the only way if you want to still have all your hair at the end on the day that is. I got the walnut burl from Rosebud veneer.
( http://www.rosebudveneer.com ) It was about $7.00 a sqft, which I considered a steal for burl of that quality. Cheers.Russ.
