Woodworking is a wonderful craft, and once you're hooked, it will feed your passion for a lifetime. Unfortunately, if you're just starting out, it can be difficult to know where to turn for useful information. The good news is you can start right here.
Associate editor Amanda Russell and I have developed this new program to create a clear path for getting started in the craft. We've chosen 12 crucial woodworking topics and hand-selected a collection of articles and videos for each that we think will help you most. We'll cover one topic each week during a 3-month journey that I'm confident will open the doors to woodworking and show you the amazing possibilities that lie ahead of you. Let's get started.
Good luck,
Michael Pekovich

Mike PekovichMike Pekovich's furniture-making career began when he stumbled into a basic woodworking class while studying art in college. In addition to woodworking, he studied graphic design, and the combination of those two pursuits eventually led him to Fine Woodworking magazine where he currently serves as the editor and creative director of the magazine. Over his career, Mike discovered a passion not just for building, but for teaching the craft. Along with his magazine work, Mike teaches across the country, has written numerous articles for Fine Woodworking, and has authored two books: The Why & How of Woodworking and Foundations of Woodworking.

Amanda RussellAmanda Russell grew up in El Paso, watching both her grandfather and father woodwork and restore antique clocks. She moved to Austin, Texas in 2015 to pursue a Woodworking Certification from Austin Community College. One of her instructors, Philip Morley, took her into his shop as an apprentice for four years. During that time, she did everything from working at a sawmill, running a woodshop in a non-profit, teaching and assisting classes at Austin School of Furniture, to building fences and installing custom cabinets. Amanda now operates out of her studio in Philadelphia and teaches woodworking classes.
