Finishing Technique for Greene and Greene Furniture
A simple recipe for reproducing this classic furniture style's finishFrom soft joinery and subtle cloud lifts, to ebony accents and glowing amber tones, Greene and Greene furniture has a distinctive look. Part of that unique appearance comes from the rich warm glow of the furniture that the Greene brothers created over a century ago.
Greene and Greene furniture maker Darrell Peart developed his own finishing technique to mimic the beautiful patina that’s been a hallmark of the style for decades. It’s a simple mix of seven parts orange dye stain with four parts medium brown, to achieve that deep, rich color. The finish is capped off with multiple applications of an oil-urethane topcoat.
