Router Jigs Make Mortised Locks Easy
A router and three jigs are all that's required to fit lock-sets preciselyInstalling a half-mortise lock by hand is not only time-consuming, but tricky to get just right. When faced with teaching a woodworking class that required 10 students to install three locks each, Fine Woodworking executive art director Michael Pekovich knew there had to a better way.
Pekovich created three simple jigs that make the installation process fast and easy. The first jig is used to drill out the keyhole, and two other jigs are used to route out the lock body and lock plate mortises.
In this short video, Pekovich demonstrates how to use the jigs, and in the process, shows viewers just how fast and easy it is.
