Straight Talk on Straight Bits

What about bits for plunge cutting? Which of the three work?
Spiral up cut bits are best for plunge cutting, as in mortising, as the chips are pulled up and out as the router plunges in.
Video is a waste of time
Very cool video, Ben!
Nice video.. good format, quick and to the point with examples.
Hey Ben,
Cool format. I wish you would have included a straight cut bit example. I'm unsure when I would use a straight bit vs a downcut bit. You said all three are useful but I don't see why.
That was fun to watch! Nice format quick and to the point. Thanks!
I liked the video, well done.
Ouch. In contrast to others' comments, I find this format hard to follow and as unpleasant as fingernails scraping across a blackboard.
I liked the video. Thanks for producing it.
Great piece of video, to the point visually and factually. The next generation arrives
FYI I ordered a upcut 3/4" bit to drill out bench dog holes.
Did not have a great deal of luck (very hard to get started).
Went to my local ACE hardware store, bought a 3/4" Irwin speedbor for around $7.00, chucked it into a heavy duty drill (with two handles) and experienced really fast and accurate drilling. Hugh
That was crazy simple and extremely effective for a two-minute video!

This is a professional publication that we pay a premium price for.
That was anything but professional.
I miss Asa Christiana and Ed Pirnik, they wouldn't have let junk like this in the magazine or on the website.
The idea is good.
for me, I´m not a english nativspeaker, it´s to fast. Please remember, a lot of FFW readers lives outside US.

Wasn't a great video but weren't bad either. Hope you put more thought and creative skill into your next 1. For the ones that want a better understanding and better explanation into the bits they need. As for Hughcharles he should have started with a smaller 1 first so it helps guide the cut easier. Thanks Ben.
Dose the fact that you may be using the router in as a hand-held router or attached to a table affect which bit would be best?
I don't think this video is a waste of time. I learned how to determine if a bit is up or down cut.
Sorry, but this is just another stupid vid ... what's up with the banner across the top that covers the top portion of the vid? Anyone who takes the time, energy, and resources to create and post a vid, and then blocks its content from view with unnecessary banners across the top and bottom obviously doesn't respect the vid, nor do they respect their audience.
Then there's the music ... yeah, the beat is nice, but it's just too much. We're not teeny boppers here, I think most of the audience are adults ... let's try treating us as adults, that would be a good start.
And finally, the speed of your presentation needs consideration ... we're human beings, not computers. Get a clue.
Overall, just another stupid vid made by people who have grandiose ideas about what they do but really are just clueless hacks. Sorry, I know the truth hurts, but it's about time people in this country got their act together and stopped being so wasteful and started producing things of real value. Don't waste my time with teeny bopper garbage.
Ahh,
As a teeny bopper I won't try and explain the whole "different strokes for different folks" thing, or how nobody forced you to watch the whole video, when it should have been clear right from the start whether you were wasting your time or not.
I do want to comment on this part of your complaint:

Your mouse pointer was hovering over the video. When a users mouse is over the video it displays more information and the player controls. It's industry standard. YouTube and Vimeo do the same thing. It has nothing to do with respect for the audience or the the video.
