Congratulations to John Kizer who wins the Grand Prize for our Classical Style contest with his Boston Bombe Chest. Michael Henderson’s Newport-Style Bureau wins the runner up prize.
These two gathered the highest vote tallies in our community voting and will take home prize packages from Titebond.
Kizer’s curvaceous piece blew us away. “Bombay is da bomb!” commented one FW staffer.
The sides and drawer fronts were hand shaped a 12/4 African Mahogany board: 24 ft by 12 ft. long.
“WOW! Where did you ever get the 12/4 African Mahogany plank?” commented Alban.
Newport piece is a community favorite
Henderson’s piece drew the second highest vote tally and the most community comments.
“The carving is outstanding as usual, the grain matching of the Cherry is near perfect and the craftsmanship is impeccable. This piece will only become more beautiful with age, too, as the Cherry darkens. Wonderful work.” wrote Ruffnek.
More voter favorites
The Louis XV Breakfront Buffet, New England Bonnet Top Secretary, and Seymour Federal Dressing Chest with Mirror also received high vote numbers.
Gregg Novosad, aka Diviner, continues to wow us with his creativity and marquetry talents.
Novosad, who won our Tool Chest Contest, said the breakfront buffet “is my all time favorite as it combines period styling and ornament as well as making it current with a storyline of family members protecting their heirloom from Alfred Hitchcock like birds of prey.”
George Lang’s (wogadog) secretary also drew a substantial part of the voting block.
A client asked Lang to build the piece. Lang said he could make it if the client could be patient. The pair found success. “Very beautiful, exquisite. Fine work. Impressive,” wrote cherilm.
Jgherman also came in ahead of the voting pack with his dressing chest with mirror.
He modeled the piece after one from a Peabody Essex Musem exhibit on Seymour. The original graces the cover of The Furniture Masterworks of John and Thomas Seymour.
Thanks to all who entered this contest. The Craftsmanship was truly remarkable. Thanks to those who helped us select a winner.
For those who missed the contest, we would still love to see examples of your period furniture in our gallery. Or, if you have a cabinet that you’d like to show off, enter it in our latest Cure for the Common Cabinet contest for a chance to win a prize package from Bessey.
Congrats again to Kizer and Henderson. Kizer wins the Grand Prize Package valued at $350.00. It includes a case each of Titebond III, Titebond Original, and Titebond II Fluorescent. Plus an Instant Bond Starter Kit and a HiPURformer Kit plus a Titebond promotional item. Henderson wins the runner-up prize package, valued at $200.00. It includes a case each of Titebond III and Titebond Original plus an Instant Bond Starter Kit.
