Pecan Bookcase
Pecan bookcase for my wife’s Christmas present. Frame and panel construction, figured wood panels. Made the crown molding myself on the table saw and a lot of time sanding the saw marks out. 5 coats of Satin poly, bubble glass. It took me about 80 hours to complete. (and 2 sets of planer knives). 38″ x 74″ tall. please leave comments or suggestions.

Very beautiful piece of furniture. I've often wondered about pecan, how it would work and finish. I'd say that you have a classic heirloom. If you have kids, surely one of them will be looking forward to one day having it passed down to them. As for suggestions, you mentioned the time sanding the saw marks from the crown molding. I've made crown molding on the table saw on quite a few occasions, and yes, it can be a booger to clean up. I've found that using a rip blade as opposed to a combination blade helps and a curved card scraper can save you a good deal of sanding.
As to the saw marks on the crown, I found a set of moulding knives used on the table saw made by CMT (800-841-1133)), as suggested by Lonnie Bird, in his Tall Case Clock article (FWW# 171) works very nicely. I used it to produce the molding for my Tall Case Clock, and it requires very little touch up to remove the cut marks, plus the set make a number of different profiles using a combination of router and table saw, with all cutters included. I highly recommend the set.
