Upholstery might seem intimidating at first, but making a comfortable seat cushion is well within the skillset of any woodworker. In this video series, upholsterer Michael Mascelli takes you through the process of upholstering the drop-in seat cushion frame for an Arts & Crafts rocking chair built by Mike Pekovich.
You’ll learn how to:
- Assemble a simple yet effective set of basic tools for upholstery
- Create a sprung foundation with zigger springs
- Build up a base of various foam and Dacron layers to get the right shape and comfort
- Top it off with a folded and tacked show cover of leather or vinyl, and a simple neat dust cover on the bottom.
In the final episode, you’ll learn how to finish the cushion with a vinyl show cover and a dust cover that keeps the dust in.

Thank you for lesson, how to use tacks on matching and for indroduction of tools (especially tack remover)!
When I install jute webbing I put always end of the webbing under nail heads (underside sometimes even twice), then nailheads don't "eat" webbing so easily. And it is not so hard to ease also edge of the frame innerside, to protect webbing from wearing.

being a retired upholsterer , I found this truly hard to watch . I get that this is for someone that would only use this once in their lifetime , I still think that being in fine woodworking it should have been the same quality instruction
