Modify Your Marking Gauge
Pin-style marking gauges have a single cutter that will work better with a couple of quick fixes.
The cylindrical cutter on a pin-style gauge normally leaves a ragged line when marking across the grain, and it’s hard to be precise because the beam of the tool blocks the line of sight. In this video, Scott Gibson demonstrates a couple of simple modifications anyone can make to correct these faults.
