Treasures For Grandson
This toy box was made from scrap material and a few idea sketches. Most important features are 8 coats of Spar Varnish to keep the finish somewhat child proof. The lid closure mechanism is adjusted to keep it about 1/2″ from completely closing. This is temporary until both of my grandsons are old enough or big enough to not close the lid with one of them in it. The cloth liner can be removed or changed to something else as the oldest grandson out grows the “Teddy Bear” design. It’s heavily built and should last a lifetime. He’ll probably even be able to find a use for it when he reaches manhood, even if it’s just for a storage box in the garage or attic. If the finish gets scratched or worn, no problem. A light sanding and another coat or two of Spar and it’ll be good as new. After all it’s a Treasure Chest/Toy Box that should withstand a boys’ use at any age.
