In it’s previous life this coffee table was a king size headboard. I found the bedframe and headboard at St. Vincent DePaul here in Madison, WI. I was impressed that the headboard was one solid piece of wood 18″ from top to bottom at the top of the arc and 1 1/4″ thick. The edge has been tapered underneath to give it the illusion of being lighter. I thought it was cherry but after sanding it down, discovered, it was Butternut. I decided to use urethane semi-gloss varnish to bring out it’s natural attributes. The legs have yet to be finished. This is intended as a gift for my son for his birthday in January for his new apartment (provided he ever buys a couch to go in the living room). The project will be completed this weekend, but I wanted to get it into the competition before deadline. Not bad for a $45 investment!
