There is such a deep sense of tradition and history in Japan and I have always been impressed with the way that it is passed from generation to generation. The chair style is a variation of Thomas Moser’s Eastward chair. After deciding to do the mobile inlay and the Iris flower (oragami stylized), I drew it on the seat with colored pencils. I found the Inlace products, used them and was very happy with the results. For those not familaiar with the product it is a stone and/or metal powder that is mixed in to an epoxy slurry and then added to the carved area, sanded flush and polished. After finishing Ayaka’s chair I also built another rocking chair for my other Son, Jeff and daughter MaeCyn. As of this writting they haven’t seen the results. Our Christmas family gathering is this weekend and then both grandchildren can Rock-On.
