Michigan Outline Table
The table is made from cherry, curly maple, oak, walnut, copper, and purpleheart. The wood in the table reflects the four most prominent natural timbers found in Michigan – cherry, maple, oak, and walnut. The cherry top represents the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The top of the table is supported by an off-center pedestal. The supporting member of the pedestal is curly maple in the shape of the Upper Peninsula. Lateral stability of the top is provided by two copper rods; copper being a metal mined in the UP for decades. Four pieces of walnut connect the UP to the feet, also cut from maple. The feet of the table are trimmed with Purpleheart, Albion College’s school color.
