This is a small hall table that I built for our home.  We have a Victorian built in the 1890’s.  We had an old console radio that served as a hall table that “came with the house.”  While there is a lot of detailed woodwork around the house, some of the original features were pretty utilitarian.  I designed this table after reading some books on middle-class furniture and Shaker furniture, and the design ends up combining some of those features and design elements from extant woodwork in the house.  The rails and legs are joined with mortise and tenon joints, and the drawers have half-blind dovetails for the fronts and full dovetails for the backs.  The table is built entirely out of white oak, with the exception of the maple drawer sides and backs and the birch plywood drawer bottoms.  The finish is a few coats of Watco medium walnut Danish oil, wet sanded after each, and an application of paste wax because I liked the resulting sheen.  The drawers slide on simple runners and kickers installed between the front and rear aprons.
