Inlayed Dovetail Drawers
This treadle sewing machine belonged to my wife’s grandmother and was in very poor condition. It was stripped down to bare metal and all the wood was replaced. To make it a unique piece, I used inlayed dovetails. Contrasting wood was used to highlight the dovetail joints. This illustrates how functional joints can also be very beautiful. The top and drawer fronts are oak, the drawer sides are reclaimed ash and the inlays are soft maple. It is finished with a custom color stain that I mixed and then a clear satin finish.
