Craftsman Style Rocking Chair
This is the first complex project I have completed. Made entirely of walnut with leather seat. Construction includes 44 mortise and tenon joints and it was completed in two weeks. I applied a natural stain and finished with a 3 coats of wipe on polyurethane.

Paul taught you well. I too have the same chair and have gotten some great comments about it.

I have only attended the foundational course. I built the chair by using the book written by Paul.
Could someone who built one of these beautiful Craftsman style rocking chairs give me an idea of the cost of material in walnut or other fine wood.
Does anyone know where I could get the exact plans for this Craftsman style rocking chair>
Thanks
This rocker was designed by Paul Sellers. He is the director of the woodworking school at the Center for Essential Education located in Elm Mott, Tx, (Just north of Waco). He has written a book that explains the construction of this rocker. You should go to cfee.com or contact them by calling 254-799-1480, ask for Paul Sellers or email to

The classic A&C design using walnut rather than white oak results in a very beautiful piece. This is a great piece of work! Thanks for posting the photographs.
Hi Katstony,
You must order 13.5-brd ft of 8/4 and 9-brd ft of 4/4. This allows the standard 25% for wastage when you build your project. I can't recall how many of the chairs I have made personally in developing the design and how many scores of people who have come to my seminars on making them. It has been great fun seeing them come together over the last fifteen years. If anyone has a problem with any of the steps, please feel free to contact me.

Kalstony,
I just updated all of the information on this project and the full step-by-step how-to is now available.
Also, APO, the foundational course really works and your comment proves it. the skills you learn in that foundational level will take you wherever you want to go. Almost three thousand students have been through the beginning level workshops. Who knows what they are all doing now.
What was the name of that book written by Paul?
