This is a keepsake box I made as a gift for my girlfriend on her birthday. The top and sides are made from solid curly maple. The maple was slightly thicker than an inch which allowed me to get the shape I wanted from the sides and lid. The dowels holding the frame of the box together and attaching the handle are paduak. I resawed a piece of paduak for the top and bottom panels inside the box. The feet and handle are made from bocote. This box is my original design, but I was inspired from other Asian style boxes and furniture I have seen. I finished the box with several coats of semi-gloss Arm-R-Seal which really brings out the curl in the maple while leaving the wood with a natural look. By the way, my girlfriend loves the box.
